Audio Systems for Life Safety
This paper outlines the design and application criteria for use of audio systems for life safety in high-rise and other buildings with high population density. It establishes design and operation parameters for emergency public address systems and schemes for supervision of circuiting and assurance of reliable operation under emergency conditions. Similar treatment is given to the fireman's emergency interphone system; emergency loudspeaking intercom to stairwells and elevators; public telephone and portable radio systems. Also discussed are the integration of these systems into the overall fire alarm and extinguishing systems and consolidation into the fireman's control panel as required in many localities.
