All sound recording media possess limitations in signal-to-noise ratio, frequency range, distortion and economy. Each is characterized by more severe dynamic limitations at the frequency extremes than in the mid-range. the limits of present-day magnetic tape recording are explored, with special reference to slow-speed, high-information-density recording.
