A Proposed AM Stereo Broadcasting System

Document Thumbnail

This paper introduces our newly developed AM stereo broadcasting system. It offers the advantage of saving a certain frequency band, since the modulated wave has a single sideband with a carrier in mono transmission, and double sidebands in stereo transmission. If this technique is extended into an "FAM" system, it offers another important advantage that, when a signal is panned between L-R for intensity stereophony, and when that signal is reproduced in mono by a most common receiver with an envelope detector, the output level remains constant. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the modulated wave and its reception based on the results of computer simulations.
