A Closed-Loop Tape Transport Servo System for Pressure Roller-Less Drive

The servo control system used in a new audio tape transport is discussed with special emphasis on the requirements dictated by continuous capstan tape control. Closed loop reel and capstan servos, their modes of operation, interaction, and control, along with some of the unusual methods employed in their implementation will be presented.
