The problem of creating audio delay is solved by using modern digital technology. In such a system, the audio is converted into a sequence of digital words which are stored in a shift register for the desired delay time and then reconverted into the output audio signal. The theoretical basis for determining the effective signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth, and storage requirement is shown.
