Chromium dioxide particles differ from iron oxide particles in several respects. : The saturation magnetization and coercivity are higher and, as illustrated by electron micrographs, the particles are more acicular and more readily oriented. It is shown that these physical properties give rise to substantial improvements in audio recording performance, particularly at the very short wavelengths involved in high quality cassette recording.
