The assumption of a diaphragm moving as a piston has made mathematical analysis of low-frequency loudspeaker performance practicable, but above this -piston region- is where most of the -witchcraft- of loudspeaker design exists. Diaphragm mass, shape, and material are among the determining factors at higher frequencies, and an understanding of their effects and methods of control in cone manufacture will aid in dispelling the remaining mysteries of loudspeaker design.
