Overview of 2D and 3D Linear and Non-Linear Electromagnetic, Structural, Vibroacoustic and Viscothermal Finite Element Analysis Simulations on Transducers and Cabinets

This paper gives a comprehensive overview to what extend sensitivity, distortion and frequency responses nowadays can be simulated on transducers and cabinets by means of 2D & 3D linear & non-linear electromagnetic, structural, vibroacoustic and viscothermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations. The overview is intentionally practically focused on capable, efficient and productive everyday decision-making, which disqualifies some simulation classes due to phenomenally large and unacceptable requirements to the computational capacity. Two of these important simulation classes are i) vibroacoustic (occasionally also including viscothermal effects) 3D linear harmonic analysis for design of cyclic periodic or random geometric features in a transducer’s cone, surround, spider or back volume and ii) 2D/3D linear & non-linear vibroacoustic transient analysis for reduction of distortion. The paper describes how to remove these two obstructing limitations by i) use of a newly iCapture developed proprietary interpolation algorithm combined with existing scanning software from Klippel GmbH and ii) a novel use of multitone techniques in advanced simulation methods. The only non-possible simulation class is in the paper described to be viscothermal transient analysis since there exists no simulation tool having standard build-in transient capability in the viscothermal domain.
