MPEG-A Professional Archival Multimedia Application Format (MAF) Under Development
High-resolution audio requires an efficient archiving tool. This paper shows the latest compression performance of the MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding (ALS) for high-resolution audio signals and describes MPEG's latest proposed extensions to MPEG-4 ALS for support of new file formats for large data sizes exceeds 4 GB. It also describes the latest specification of the Professional Archival Multimedia Application Format (MAF). The Professional Archival MAF compresses and archives files and folder structures into a single archive file so that recorded digital audio projects including meta-information can be archived losslessly along with traditional digitized traditional documentations (e.g. tracking sheets, lyrics, and engineer notes) in the standardized manner. The Professional Archival MAF is a sufficient tool for the future-proof archiving.
