The meaning of traditional input-output facsimile measurements is examined in the light of the known physical behavior of loudspeakers. The influence of speaker directivity on total radiated power measurements is discussed. Novel evaluation techniques which combine subjective value judgments with acoustical data obtained from individual concert halls and listening rooms are contrasted with traditional loudspeaker design methods.
