On the Processing of Two and Three-Channel Program Material for Four Channel Playback

Document Thumbnail

The present library of two and three track master tapes will not necessarily obsolesce with the emergence of four-channel stereo. Where the musical intent is of the -Direct-Reverberant- sort, then most of this material can be reprocessed by means of appropriate time-delay, artificial reverberation, and equalization in a way that simulates four-channel recording in a normal environment. Techniques will be discussed in detail, and examples will be played.
