Using 5.1 multichannel sound gives radio broadcasters a whole new palette of opportunities. Where as film and television are somewhat restricted by what to put in the six different loadspeakers, radio have the total freedom of really getting into it. And so we have! Swedish Radio is one of the first to utilize the audio technology of Dolby Digital and DTS for radio, both on the Internet www.sr.se/multikanal and during the first quarter of 2003 also as extensive tests with on-air distribution of multichannel sound encoded in DTS.
