Horn Loudspeakers for Live Sound

Document Thumbnail

Loudspeaker horns have two major useful properties. They act as acoustic transformers, amplifying sources of sound, and they create boundaries for controlling the direction of propagation of sound. Traditionally, horn design has concentrated on exploiting either the former property, where high efficiency and / or high sound quality are required, or the latter, where directivity control is important. Modem live sound loudspeaker systems have to combine both high sound quality and reasonable directivity control without serious compromise of either. A number of novel and not so novel designs can fulfil this requirement.
