Some Psychoacoustic Considerations for Recording, Stage and Broadcasting

Document Thumbnail

After the basic technical problems of audio have been resolved, the new aim was High Fidelity: dynamic, distortion-free, flat. Since lifelike reproduction at home proved difficult to obtain, sometimes even undesirable, audio is now used to create a specific atmosphere in the listener, by unflattening, distorting, and psychoacoustically processing the sound. Recently it has been found that binaural and other techniques can turn the listener from an outside observer of, into an apparent participant in the acoustic event.
