Towards a Digital Power Amplifier

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes a method for direct conversion of digitally encoded audio signals into analog power to drive a loudspeaker without any intermediate conversion to an analog voltage representation - this is digital pulse width modulation. The technique is described in general terms and a selection of simulation results presented. Finally, some insight into a possible physical implementation is given.
