Tape copies can be made either by the method of direct recording or by magnetic printing. So far only direct recording has been successfully applied, ranging from the 1:1 normal speed to the 1:16 multiple-speed mode. Multiple-speed tape duplicating is very effective when manufacturing tape records of low nominal tape speed, i.e. 1 7/8 ips. Considerations of tape duplicator design are reviewed and the efficiency of their practical application discussed.
