Design Considerations for Magnetic Tape Used on Continuous Loop Cartridges
Track width and tape speed have combined to place an unusually severe burden on magnetic tape intended for eight-track automobile cartridge use. The limitations of contemporary general-purpose lubricated tape are discussed and the future needs of the automobile-home cartridge application considered in terms of electromagnetic properties such as sensitivity, maximum undistorted output, output uniformity, noise level, and print-through. The mechanical requirements unique to the endless loop application are also examined.
