The Master Audio Meter: A Digital Scanning RMS/Peak VU Meter
To meet the requirements for a better method of volume indication, analog and digital technology were combined to produce a basic scanning meter movement having both PEAK and RMS display capability. This design incorporates a scan/ramp generator with a precision rectifier and digital comparator to control a dual channel 22 LED stereo display covering the range from -50 to +5 dBm. CMOS switching is also used to accomplish the Internal changeover from PEAK to RMS and dBm to VU function.
