Digital Audio Archiving In Public Broadcasting
This paper will present the Digital Radio Archive Project of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE), which is currently in its implementation phase. Results from different project phases will be presented. YLE holds significant historical audio archives, which are used in daily production in more than 20 locations around Finland. A major part of production at YLE is done using Computer Aided Radio (CAR) systems. The primary reasons for the implementation of the digital audio archive were the need for a centralised archive of production material from CAR systems and the ageing of the analogue tapes. Due to this, a significant part of the project has focused on work processes and the integration of the archival system and CAR systems.
