An Integrated Solution For Digitization, Archiving, And Restoration Of Large Audio Collections

Document Thumbnail

There is a growing demand to rescue large historic audio collections stored on different analogue media. The huge amount of historic recordings in audio libraries would take hundreds of years for high-quality transfer to new reliable digital media. Non-repairable defects can occur in the meantime, so this is obviously too long to wait. It is also too expensive, because very qualified experts are required to achieve professional results. This paper describes a system "already implemented as a prototype" that allows transferring and archiving large audio collections faster, easier and more cost effective. This system is also suitable for automatic embedding metadata coming from existing database systems, handling large wave files (over 2GB), and automatic restoration of digitized and archived audio files.
