The paper introduces the digital sound effect and image database which was developed for educational use in Tampere Polytechnic library in Finland. The emphasis of the project was in the development of the principles for the textual content and subject description of the sound effects. The model was built by combining the analysis of the structure of the sound effects to the study of present subject description practices.
