The AES recognizes and honors those who have made outstanding
contributions to the field of audio in engineering, technology,
service, and the arts through its Awards Program.
In 1981, William L. Robinson was presented with the
AES Honorary Membership Award for technical leadership and pioneering in the fields of broadcast and recording operations; for his encouragement of close liaison of technical personnel with those in the performing arts; and for his work in initiating and organizing the AES conventions in Los Angeles.
