Television's Bonanza

Bonanza was created by NBC in 1959 as its first in-house telefilm project, under David Sarnoff's new subsidiary NBC Productions. It was the first Western to be televised in color. Only Gunsmoke on CBS (1955-75) would have a longer life on the tube than Bonanza on NBC (1959-73).
